Fabric: An intelligent technology, Atmosphere takes its cue from what physicists call “thermal vibration” -- when the temperature rises above a pre-determined activation point, micro-pores are created in the polymer membrane, allowing moisture and body heat to escape. Because moisture vapor permeability increases as the temperature rises, the membrane is able to respond intelligently to changes in the wearer's environment and body temperature.
When the temperature within a garment is low the Adaptive Performance membrane acts to reduce permeability and slows the air and water molecules from passing through the membrane. This helps to retain body heat. As the temperature within the garment rises the Adaptive Performance membrane increases the membrane’s permeability causing water vapor to be expelled to the outside air at a faster rate of speed. This Adaptive Performance function enables the garment to intelligently adjust its breathable properties in response to temperature changes, assuring optimum comfort in any environment.
Atmosphere functions as a normal high-performance, breathable jacket until the outside temperature reaches16°C (60°F); then, Adaptive Performance membrane is triggered to increase the breathability and release moisture up to a temperature range of 26°C (80°F) and beyond where it performs at maximum breathability.
