Moitessier is of course a sailing legend, and in France is almost a demi-god. His philosophy mattered to him as much as his sailing, and really he devoted very little of his life to anything else but these two pursuits. This book (one of the four he wrote) is the story of a round the world voyage in Joshua, his steel double-ended ketch, with his new young wife Francoise, via Cape Horn. It was a honeymoon trip. This book relates many of the events that made him a legend, and - to quote Jonathan Raban directly ".....this is a book about mystical communion, with a boat, with the water, and the weather, with the creatures of the sea.......... Id sooner read Moitessier than any other nautical writer alive."
